Dr. Channon joined the group in 1981. He is a graduate of the City University of New York, Queens College. Dr. Channon then completed his medical school at the New York Medical College, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society and a Mosby Scholar. A medical internship was completed at the Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York and a medical residency at the State University of Stonybrook, Northport. Dr. Channon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has broad interests in many fields of ophthalmology, however, his particular interest is Small Incision Cataract surgery. At the present time, the use of advanced technology lens implants minimzes the need for post cataract surgery glasses correction. This is achieved with toric lens implants, or multifocal lens implants.
In addition to cataract and implant surgery, Dr. Channon manages and treats a comprehensive spectrum of ophthalmic conditions, including macular disease, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and ocular surface conditions.
The practice has extensive diagnostic equipment to aid in the management of these conditions. This includes angiography, ultrasound, OCT, visual fields, topography, tear osmolarity testing and ocular photography.
Dr. Channon has taken part in numerous depositions, as well as many chart reviews, primarily for evaluation of disability, but also to resolve issues of standard of care.
